Groom’s Get Their Cake and Eat it Too!

In the spirit of equal opportunity for all when planning a wedding, grooms today are sometimes opting to show off their creative spark by ordering up their own Groom’s Cake. You may have seen this yourself, it appears to be a smaller version of a cake sitting quietly off to the side at the wedding reception in the past. However, today the Groom’s cake is often getting more attention as Grooms are exercising more authority in the design and as Brides are taking more of an interest in this tradition. Also Brides sometimes like to “surprise” their new husbands and present these cakes as gifts at the reception.
Groom’s cakes can really be an open ended slate as far as design goes. They can represent a hobby, interest, location, or something sentimental for the Groom. Many cakes take the shape of sports balls, i.e, footballs, golf balls, and like the picture to the left, basketballs for a wedding Party of 2 was a consultant for, and represent favorite sports teams or college schools. In the past, groom’s cakes tended to be heavier and darker than the main wedding cake, however this is not necessarily the case anymore, as again, the Grooms are branching out and becoming more adventurous in their selections. Some couples will serve the cake right along with the wedding cake or will slice and box it to take home as a favor for the guests. Wedding tradition says that any single lady who sleeps with a slice of groom’s cake under her pillow will dream of her future husband!
Chocolate, or vanilla, fondant , or buttercream, if you choose to have both a wedding cake and a groom’s cake at your wedding, how can you go wrong?
