Long Beautiful Hair, words to a song, but also the goal of many Brides on their wedding day! But just how do you achieve that picture perfect wedding hairstyle look for the day you have been planning for most of your life? Here are a few of our suggestions and just some common sense thoughts:
First of all, remember you know yourself, so don’t go trying something wild and crazy just because it’s your wedding day. Stick to a hairstyle that suits your general style and the shape of your face. Consult your stylist if you are at all unsure. Remember, you have history with your hair, don’t let a hairstylist “talk” you into something that you know doesn’t work for you. The goal is to achieve the best version of you walking down the aisle, not some “new” creation of someone your fiancée or family and guests don’t recognize!
Do your research early on. Look at the styles that are out there. Check out this pulled back look at Weddingwire.com. Perhaps narrow the selection down to 1-3 choices, bring copies of these along with you to your first appointment with your hairstylist as a starting point for your discussion as you decide on your “best-look” style. Book an appointment 3 -4 months out and do a trial run and if you are wearing a veil or other head adornment, bring this with you to your appointment. NOTE: Bring a camera! Once you complete your style, take a picture from all angles, this way on your wedding day, your stylist will have something to work from, other than her/his memory! Also, (heaven forbid) should your stylist be unavailable, you have an insurance policy and can use your pictures to give to another stylist and still get the look you want on your day!
Besides knowing yourself, your second goal should be to compliment the style of your gown which in turn reflects the formality of the event as well. Obviously, princess style dresses, dresses with bare backs, and halter style dresses are probably going to inspire you or the stylist to create an up-do look or a pulled back look, which might also be a more formal affair. Whereas, a beach wedding, where you are perhaps wearing a sheath gown might dictate loose wavy curls held with a decorative head band or a side floral hair pin, maybe a more laid-back, less-formal look.
Lastly, in the area of common sense, make sure your stylist is available on your wedding date, so establish this early on in your research gathering period. Get recommendations and if it is important to you, check to see if your stylist will travel to you or if you will have to go to them on the day of your wedding. Also, should you need to cut your hair, remember hair is more natural looking after about 1-2 weeks after a cut so don’t schedule a cut the day before your wedding! On the flip side, when looking at a lot of the wedding styles in the magazines, keep in mind they may require additional tresses, so factor that into your schedule and pocket book if you need to “grow” additional hair!
Finally, as with any vendor, reconfirm your appointment several times!!! Have a good hair day!!!
