Why the Hidden Costs to Planning a Wedding?

As Wedding and Event Planners, Party of 2, always makes it a priority with our couples and clients to point out what some people may think are the “hidden” costs to planning or hosting a wedding. We sometimes refer to them as those items that couples or clients think “magically” just happen by some wave of a wand or perhaps it just a misunderstanding of whose ultimate responsibility the job falls to between the multitudes of vendors present at any given event. These are those costs usually associated with event set-up and take down, minor decorative touches, like favor setting, napkin folding, Swarovski crystal placement, menu cards, where do the ceremony flowers go after the ceremony is done?, etc. etc.
Unfortunately, we feel that couples may find themselves in this position partly as a function of not having professional planning assistance (This is where Party of 2 can help!) and coordination between vendors but it can also be a function of how couples are bombarded with information from the wedding media in general. In Andy Ebon’s The WeddingMarketingblog.com, on this same subject, he points out this idea that because of this blitzing of information on wedding products and services, couples tend to make decisions singularly on products and services in a void and don’t understand how the services interact with each other and the relative importance they can have and do have on each other. As a result of this information overload in an communication void, couples will and do overspend their budgets.
So, as you saw in the marketing video in Andy Ebon’s blog, the result of all this, is that when the media brings the rash of information to couples and presents it in a void, puts couples in a position where they overspend, which in turns put them into mad and bizarre negotiation tactics which when presented in “real” life situations make no sense and frustrates all parties involved!
At Party of 2, we have long recognized this void in the communication process and early on try to avoid this problem with our couples or clients. At Party of 2 we also feel it’s important that we only recommend to our customers and clients those vendors that share this same philosophy. It is up to us as vendors, to keep our clients informed, after all we are the experts in the industry, not our Brides and Grooms!
